Reaction Control
The continuous measurement of oxidation-reduction potential in a chemical solution guides the dosing of oxidizing and reducing agents. Utilizing orp redox monitoring ensures that bleach baths or vat dye solutions remain at the chemical potentials required for uniform reaction. This technique replaces empirical titration methods.
Electrochemical Probe
A noble metal electrode paired with a reference electrode measures the millivolt potential of the solution. The resulting voltage indicates the relative activity of electron donors and acceptors in the bath. This measurement changes instantly when chemical additions are made.
Processing Application
Sodium hydrosulfite additions in indigo denim dyeing must be tightly controlled to prevent dye precipitation or fabric over-reduction. With orp redox monitoring, the dosing pump adds reducing agents only when the voltage rises above the target threshold. This maintains a stable dye bath and ensures consistent shade development across millions of meters of yarn.
The system preventing under-reduction which causes the indigo dye to remain insoluble and fail to adhere to the cotton.
Sensor Maintenance
Accumulation of dye or chemical scale can coat the platinum tip, reducing its response time. Regular rinsing with dilute acid keeps the sensor active. This maintenance prevents drift in the recorded redox levels.
