Moisture Measurement
The percentage of water held by a blended yarn or fabric relative to its bone-dry mass determines the commercial weight for transactions and quality control. This cotton polyester regain varies depending on the ratio of the hydrophilic natural cotton to the hydrophobic synthetic polyester. Lab technicians calculate this value using standard drying ovens and precise analytical balances, which prevents commercial friction during weight inspections at the receiving mill.
Blend Proportion
Fabrics containing different ratios of natural and synthetic fibres behave differently in humid conditions. A blend with sixty percent cotton will have a higher cotton polyester regain than a blend with only thirty percent cotton because polyester absorbs almost no water. This difference affects the hand, strength and dye uptake of the textile.
Weight Correction
Commercial shipments of yarn must be adjusted to a standard moisture level to prevent disputes over weight discrepancies caused by ambient humidity. Calculating the correct cotton polyester regain allows buyers and sellers to agree on a standardized transaction mass. This calculation relies on applying the official regain percentages for each individual fibre to the overall blend ratio.
Invoice Adjustment
Financial settlement for bulk yarn or fabric orders is finalized by converting the actual scale weight into the official commercial weight. If the cotton polyester regain is higher than the standard limit, the buyer deducts the excess water weight from the billed amount. Conversely, a very dry shipment means the buyer receives more actual fibre per kilogram.
