Laboratory Apparatus
Laboratory filtration vessels made from fused glass particles allow for the collection and weighing of insoluble residues during fibre analysis. A glass sintered crucible acts as the primary collection point for the non-dissolved portion of a textile blend after solvent treatment. The porous disc at the base of the vessel retains the fibres while allowing the chemical reagent and wash water to pass through under vacuum.
Filtration Grade
Pore size selection for the glass sintered crucible ensures that even small fibre fragments are captured without clogging the disc.
Thermal Stability
Weighing the vessel before and after filtration allows for a precise determination of the residue mass once the unit has reached constant weight in an oven. The glass sintered crucible construction permits the use of strong acids and organic solvents that would degrade plastic or paper filters. Handling must be careful to avoid chipping the rim, as any loss of glass mass would introduce a systematic error into the percentage calculation.
Thermal shocks must be avoided during the drying process to prevent the glass from cracking or the sinter from loosening.
Cleaning Procedure
Cleaning involves backwashing with suitable solvents to remove all trapped particles before the next test cycle.
