Twisting Component
Synthetic twisting elements utilize high-grip elastomeric surfaces to handle delicate microfibers or low-denier yarns. Polyurethane texturing discs are used in the friction aggregates of draw-texturing machines to insert twist without the aggressive abrasion associated with ceramic alternatives. The softer nature of the material provides a cushioned contact zone that preserves the integrity of fine filaments.
Grip Efficiency
Mechanical efficiency in the texturing zone is a function of the coefficient of friction and the pressure applied to the yarn. Because polyurethane texturing discs have a high natural tack, they can transmit sufficient torque at lower tensions than harder materials. This characteristic makes them suitable for processing high-stretch or sensitive yarns that might otherwise suffer from filament breakage.
Material Wear
Material wear for these components is faster than for ceramic equivalents due to the lower hardness of the polymer. As polyurethane texturing discs age, the edges can become rounded or the surface can lose its grip, leading to a decrease in twist levels. Regular inspection and replacement schedules are necessary to maintain yarn uniformity.
Operational Velocity
Heat generation limits the maximum rotational velocity of the texturing unit. Although polyurethane texturing discs offer excellent grip, they are susceptible to thermal softening if the friction and yarn speed exceed the thermal limits of the elastomer. This boundary defines the processing window for specific yarn types and machine configurations.
Constant monitoring of disc temperature prevents catastrophic failure during long production runs.
