Mathematical Metric
Mathematical metric for determining the perceptual difference between two colour samples using advanced weighting for lightness and chroma along with hue. The cielab de2000 tolerance addresses the non-uniformity of the human eye by applying specific correction factors to different regions of the colour space. Results are more accurate than older formulas.
Production batches are compared to a master standard.
Visual Weighting
Blue regions and neutral greys are treated with higher sensitivity while yellow hues are given wider margins to match observed visual assessments.
Commercial Application
Buyers and mills agree on a numerical limit to define what constitutes an acceptable match for a bulk shipment. A cielab de2000 tolerance of one point five might be set for apparel while more sensitive automotive fabrics require a limit below zero point eight. Setting these thresholds prevents disputes during final inspection by providing an objective reference for shade consistency.
Measurement Variable
The accuracy of the result depends on the spectrophotometer geometry and the observer settings used during the test. Every cielab de2000 tolerance calculation must specify the illuminant such as d65 and the observer angle of ten degrees to remain valid. Inconsistent calibration of the measuring device or improper sample preparation leads to false rejections even when the fabric is within the allowed range.
