Polymer Refinement
Mechanical screening removes solid contaminants from molten plastic before it passes through fine spinnerets to form synthetic fibres. The melt filtration process uses high pressure discs or wire meshes to catch gel particles, unreacted resin or foreign matter. This stage prevents nozzle clogs that would cause filament breakage and machine downtime in polyester or nylon spinning.
Pressure Rise
Obstruction of the filter medium leads to a steady increase in back pressure within the extrusion barrel. Monitoring the pressure drop across the melt filtration area tells technicians when to swap the screen for a clean one. Modern continuous filters rotate or cycle their media automatically to avoid interrupting production during the transition.
Finishing Target
Particle size requirements vary depending on whether the output is a high denier yarn or a microfibre. Fine melt filtration ensures that delicate filaments remain structurally intact without weak points caused by tiny impurities. High performance fabrics for filtration or medicine demand even stricter screen sizes to meet technical purity thresholds.
Hardware Maintenance
Cleaning of used filters involves pyrolysis or specialized ultrasonic baths to dissolve residual polymers. Reliable melt filtration results in higher yarn grades and less environmental waste from broken production runs. Consistent checks of screen integrity ensure that bypass leakages never occur.
