Filament Processing
False-twist mechanical processing applied to ultra-fine synthetic filaments imparts permanent crimp and stretch to continuous yarn bundles. Yarn processing mills execute microdenier texturing on polyester and polyamide filaments measuring less than one denier per filament. High-speed texturing machinery feeds flat continuous filaments through heated zones, primary twist spindles and cooling tracks to set physical bulk into individual microfilaments.
The resulting textured yarn yields soft fabric hand, enhanced drape and high cover in activewear fabrics.
Thermal Setting
Precise temperature control inside the primary heating chamber is critical when processing ultra-fine filament bundles. Temperatures operating near two hundred degrees Celsius soften synthetic polymers, allowing the mechanical false twist to rearrange the molecular orientation within each microfilament. Cooling tracks freeze the helical crimp structure before the false twist is removed downstream, creating permanent bulk.
Excessive heat causes filament fusion and melting, while insufficient heat results in poor crimp stability and low yarn stretch. Optimized spindle speed and overfeed ratios maintain uniform yarn tension, preventing filament breakage across high-speed texturing positions. Careful oil application provides anti-static protection and yarn cohesion during subsequent package winding.
Fabric Performance
Microdenier textured yarns produce high-density knit structures that offer wind resistance and rapid moisture transport. Fine filament surfaces trap microscopic air pockets, providing thermal insulation without adding fabric weight. Garment brands specify microdenier textured fabrics for high-performance athletic apparel and lightweight outerwear.
Structural Limit
Processing specifications establish maximum yarn speed and heater temperature limits to prevent microfilament abrasion. Uncontrolled friction against ceramic guides damages delicate microfilaments and generates unwanted fly lint. Regular machine maintenance preserves filament integrity during continuous texturing runs.
