Moisture Monitoring
Continuous non-contact measurement of moisture levels across the width of a moving fabric web provides real-time data for process control in finishing lines. A radiofrequency web scanner determines the moisture content by measuring changes in the dielectric constant of the fabric as it passes between sensor plates. Because water has a very high dielectric constant compared to textile fibers, this scan gives an accurate profile of moisture distribution, revealing uneven pad roller pressure or wet spots before the fabric enters the wind-up station.
Density Compensation
Fiber composition and basis weight of the moving textile influence the dielectric readings and must be accounted for during calibration. The radiofrequency web scanner uses advanced algorithms to adjust for changes in fabric density and blend ratio to ensure that moisture readings are not skewed. This compensation prevents false readings when changing between different fabric weights or fiber blends.
Drying Optimization
Automatic feedback loops adjust the speed or temperature of the stenter based on the measured exit moisture. This integration of the radiofrequency web scanner output avoids over-drying the fabric, which can cause fiber embrittlement and waste heating fuel.
Quality Records
Digital tracking of the full roll moisture profile ensures that finishing mills can provide complete quality documentation to garment factories. This continuous monitoring prevents mold growth during transit.
