Load Detection
Transducer that converts the force of a heavy vehicle or container into a measurable electrical signal facilitates bulk logistics. Reliability of a weighbridge load cell determines the accuracy of bulk fiber shipments arriving at a textile mill. These devices are typically installed in groups of four or six beneath the main platform of a truck scale.
Force Conversion
Compression of the internal strain gauge changes its electrical resistance in proportion to the applied weight. The signal from each weighbridge load cell is combined in a junction box to produce a total weight reading for the entire vehicle.
Environmental Protection
Outdoor installation requires that the housing be resistant to moisture, dust, vibration and temperature fluctuations. A quality weighbridge load cell features hermetic sealing to prevent internal corrosion and electrical shorts. Periodic cleaning of the area around the cell prevents debris from creating a mechanical bridge that would bypass the sensor and cause under weighing.
Calibration Standard
Legal for trade certifications require regular testing using certified weights to ensure the accuracy of the system. If a weighbridge load cell drifts out of calibration, the mill may experience discrepancies between its inventory records and actual stock. Technicians perform corner tests to verify that the scale reads correctly regardless of where the load is positioned on the platform.
Maintaining these sensors prevents disputes with suppliers and shipping companies over the mass of bulk textile deliveries. Frequent inspection of the mounting hardware ensures the long term stability of the weighing system.
