Mass Verification
Industrial scale measurements verify the total weight of an intact fabric roll to confirm delivery quantities and consistency across production lots. Quality control teams rely on full roll weighing to calculate the yield of a shipment without unpacking the material. This method ensures that the delivered weight matches the packing list and invoices.
It applies to whole rolls of woven, knitted, or non-woven fabrics, but is not used for short-length remnants.
Weighing Process
The entire roll is placed on a heavy-duty platform scale that has been recently calibrated. The gross weight is recorded, and the known weights of the plastic wrapping and the inner cardboard tube are deducted. This leaves the net weight of the fabric itself.
This number is then compared with the mill’s declared weight.
Yield Calculation
Dividing the net weight by the roll’s length and width yields the average weight per square metre. If this average deviates from the nominal fabric weight, it indicates a potential change in fabric density or moisture. This rapid check allows warehouse managers to flag non-conforming rolls quickly.
Dispute Resolution
Discrepancies in weight are a frequent source of claims between garment factories and textile mills. Standardizing the weighing process and deducting tare weights properly prevents false claims. This brings transparency to the supply chain.
