Measurement Purpose
Quantitative mass determination of dispensed liquids or wet textiles by weighing a captured sample on a calibrated scale provides an absolute verification of dye-dosing accuracy. Doing gravimetric catch weight testing involves intercepting the liquid flow from a dispensing valve into a tare-weighted container over a specific period. This physical weight is compared against the volume reported by the digital flowmeter to identify calibration drift.
The method is the primary defense against recipe errors in the dye house.
Analytical Process
Technicians execute this procedure by triggering a test cycle that bypasses the main mixing vessel. The dispensed dye is collected in a vessel on an electronic balance with high resolution. By converting the observed weight to volume using the known specific gravity of the liquor, they determine the dosing error.
Industrial Application
Regular execution of this test occurs at the start of each production shift or during the troubleshooting of shade variation. In continuous dyeing plants, the method also applies to wet pickup measurements of the fabric after it passes through the padder.
Calibration Verification
The resulting measurements are logged in the quality management system to track the wear and performance of the dispensing hardware over time.
