Electrode Configuration
Reference electrodes used in pH measurements during textile dyeing require a reliable liquid junction that resists clogging by suspended pigments and sizing agents. Utilizing an open sleeve junction provides a direct, unhindered pathway between the internal reference electrolyte and the sample solution. This continuous liquid-to-liquid contact prevents the electrical resistance of the circuit from rising.
Flow Mechanism
Instead of relying on a porous ceramic pin, this design features a ground glass sleeve that fits loosely over the electrode body, allowing electrolyte to flow outward at a controlled rate. The continuous flow of potassium chloride solution sweeps away dye molecules and colloidal particles before they can settle on the junction. This self-cleaning action ensures a stable reference potential even in highly turbid processing baths.
Maintenance Routine
Proper operation requires regular monitoring of the electrolyte reservoir level to maintain sufficient hydrostatic pressure for outward flow. The ground glass sleeve must be periodically loosened and flushed with clean water to remove any accumulated salts or chemical deposits. Reassembling the sleeve requires gentle pressure to ensure a uniform liquid junction without stopping the electrolyte flow.
Error Avoidance
Blocked electrode junctions introduce measurement drift and slow response times, which can lead to over-dosing of dye bath chemicals. Selecting an open sleeve junction minimizes these errors during continuous monitoring.
