Delivery Mechanism
Positive displacement devices use a reciprocating plunger to move a precise volume of liquid through a processing system. In a textile dyehouse, a piston metering pump provides the accuracy needed to inject concentrated dyes and chemicals into the main liquor stream. The volume delivered per stroke is determined by the diameter of the piston and the length of its travel.
It stops delivering fluid if the internal seals fail or the check valves become blocked.
Volumetric Precision
Consistency in the shade of a fabric lot depends on the exact reproduction of the chemical recipe. Because a piston metering pump is not affected by changes in the discharge pressure, it delivers a constant flow regardless of the resistance in the pipes. This makes it superior to centrifugal pumps for dosing applications.
Chemical Dosing
Automated systems rely on these pumps to adjust the pH or the salt concentration in real time. The piston metering pump is often connected to a controller that varies the stroke frequency based on the feedback from a sensor. It allows for the gradual addition of chemicals to ensure level dyeing.
Fluid Compatibility
Construction materials for the pump head and the seals must resist the corrosive nature of textile auxiliaries. A piston metering pump used for sulfuric acid or sodium hydroxide is usually made of stainless steel or high performance plastics. Regular maintenance of the check valves is required to prevent backflow.
