Tare Adjustment
Weight measurement calibration protocols deduct the mass of packaging materials from the gross weight of a fabric shipment to determine the net fabric mass. Warehouse personnel utilize platform scale tare to ensure that buyers only pay for the actual textile material delivered. This subtraction removes the weight of pallets, plastic film, and cardboard tubes from the total weight.
It applies to all bulk fabric roll transactions, but is not used for single garment weighing.
Calibration Process
The scale is set to zero with the empty packaging material or an empty pallet placed on the platform. When a full roll is weighed on that same pallet, the scale displays only the net fabric weight. This automated calculation speeds up the receiving process and reduces human error.
It provides an accurate measurement.
Packaging Standard
Cardboard tubes and plastic wraps can vary in weight depending on their thickness and moisture content. For example, a heavy cardboard core can weigh up to two kilograms, which can significantly skew the fabric weight if not deducted. Standardizing the tare value for each core type prevents this issue.
This protects both buyer and seller.
Inventory Accuracy
Accurate net weight measurements are essential for keeping inventory records aligned with actual stock levels. If tare weight is included in inventory figures, it leads to discrepancies during stock audits. Utilizing a reliable tare system ensures that the factory’s records are always precise.
