Volume Deviation
Fluid delivery discrepancy between the theoretical volume of a pump and the actual amount of liquid discharged. Calculating the volumetric displacement error is necessary for maintaining the correct chemical ratios during the finishing of high performance textiles. The error ceases to be relevant when the system is operating under zero pressure conditions where no backflow occurs.
Mechanical Cause
Friction and internal clearances within the pump allow a small amount of fluid to bypass the piston. If the volumetric displacement error is not accounted for, the dye bath will be weaker than intended.
Flow Rate
Variations in the seal tightness or the condition of the check valves contribute to the loss of efficiency. As a pump ages, the volumetric displacement error typically increases due to the wear of the internal surfaces.
Correction Protocol
Mills use calibration curves to adjust the pump settings and compensate for the measured loss. If the volumetric displacement error exceeds five percent, the pump usually requires a complete overhaul or the replacement of the internal gaskets. Continuous monitoring of the output volume ensures that the fabric treatment remains within the specified quality limits.
The data is recorded in the maintenance log to track the performance of the dosing system over time.
