Uniformity Measurement
A systematic monitoring method assesses the consistency of a specific physical property from one edge of a fabric roll to the other. In textile finishing plants, across width profiling identifies variations in moisture, density or chemical pickup that might otherwise cause shade variations during subsequent dyeing. This evaluation represents a standard quality check during the continuous processing of open-width fabrics.
System Operation
Sensors mounted on a traversing frame move continuously back and forth over the moving web of fabric to collect real-time data. This across width profiling system generates a graphical curve that shows the density or wetness across the entire surface of the material. Technicians use this data to identify problems with uneven squeezing in the padder rolls or clogged nozzles in a spray application system.
The resulting profile highlights specific areas where the fabric deviates from the target standard.
Moisture Assessment
Profiling reveals the moisture profile across the fabric width after exiting a drying stenter. An uneven profile indicates that the stenter nozzles are delivering air at different velocities or temperatures across the chamber. If left uncorrected, the resulting moisture variation can lead to dimensional instability, uneven fabric shrinkage or creasing during packing.
Correction Boundary
Handheld meters cannot replicate the continuous data gathered by a mounted traversing scanner. While manual measurements can verify spot values, they fail to detect localized peaks and valleys that occur between measurement points. Therefore, this continuous method remains the primary way to guarantee consistency across large production runs.
