Calculation Method
Standardized moisture calculations establish the commercial weight of blended textile shipments by integrating the dry masses and nominal moisture allowances of individual fiber components. Using the composite regain formula, laboratory technicians determine the invoice weight of yarn containing both hydrophilic and hydrophobic polymers. This ensures fair commercial billing between spinning mills and garment factories.
Moisture Calculation
The equation divides the sum of the individually calculated target weights of each fiber type by the total dry weight of the blend. To calculate this, the tester must first dry the sample to a constant weight in an oven and determine the precise percentage of each fiber present. Each fiber class has an officially designated percentage for moisture regain.
Commercial Verification
Textile contracts specify the precise regain standards to prevent disputes over weight changes caused by environmental humidity during transit. When blended yarn is shipped from a humid region to an arid one, its moisture content fluctuates. The formula provides a single, legally binding weight that becomes the invoice basis.
Application Limit
Calculations are restricted to blends of fibers with known, officially recognized moisture allowances. If a yarn contains novel synthetic fibers without established standards, the formula cannot be used.
