Lint Decompression
Mechanical processes that release compressed cotton fibres from densely packed bales allow for the effective extraction of seeds and dust. In the yarn preparation area, cotton lint opening reduces the tightly packed clumps into smaller, lighter tufts that can be transported pneumatically. This step is completed before the material reaches the carding engine.
Pneumatic Extraction
Successful separation of raw stock is necessary to expose embedded trash to the cleaning elements of the processing line. When cotton lint opening is performed efficiently, the surface area of the fibre mass increases exponentially, allowing dust and leaf fragments to fall through the grid bars. In contrast, insufficient opening results in large tufts that shield impurities from the extraction rollers.
The cleaning efficiency of the entire spinning line depends directly on this initial separation.
Staple Protection
Forceful mechanical impacts can fracture delicate cotton lint if the machines are set too aggressively. Therefore, the distance between feed rollers and beater points is calibrated to match the staple length of the batch. This protection prevents the creation of short fibres that reduce yarn strength.
Humidity Requirement
Moisture levels within the cotton must be stabilized prior to decompression. These mechanical adjustments prevent the excessive yarn weakness associated with poor cotton lint opening.
