Purification Method
A mechanical cleansing process removes solid particulate contaminants and unmelted polymer gels from a molten polymer stream before it reaches the spinneret. The melt spinning filtration step prevents the clogging of the micro-scale holes in the spinneret during synthetic fiber production. This process utilizes layers of metal mesh, sand, or sintered metal powder to capture foreign particles.
By maintaining clean polymer flow, the filtration system ensures uninterrupted extrusion.
Mechanical Action
Pressure build-up across the filter medium is monitored constantly during the extrusion run. Under the conditions of melt spinning filtration, a sudden rise in pressure indicates that the filter is filling with impurities and requires replacement. Automated back-flushing systems are sometimes used to clean the filter without halting the production line.
Production Efficiency
Industrial extrusion lines schedule filter changes to minimize machine downtime and avoid yarn breakage. Efficient melt spinning filtration reduces the frequency of these interruptions, which directly lowers the cost of manufacturing synthetic yarns. High-capacity spinning mills rely on multi-stage filters to balance fine filtration with long filter life.
Fiber Quality
Filament consistency is directly determined by the uniform flow of the polymer through the filter. Effective melt spinning filtration eliminates the micro-defects that cause filament breaks during high-speed drawing processes.
