Material Weight
Total weight of a shipment excluding all packaging materials, pallets, and protective wrappings is the starting point for trade invoicing. In commercial logistics, net physical mass represents the actual weight of the dry and wet yarn or fabric as delivered, before any moisture correction factors are applied. This value is measured directly on a calibrated warehouse scale.
Invoice Verification
Receiving departments use this scale reading to check that the delivered quantity matches the packing list. If the net physical mass differs from the declared weight on the shipping documents, the mill initiates a claims process. It is the raw value upon which commercial regain calculations are performed.
Measurement Procedure
Bales or cartons are first weighed together to find the gross weight of the delivery. The weight of the empty pallets, cardboard boxes, plastic straps, and tubes is then subtracted from this gross value to isolate the material weight. This subtraction is conducted by weighing a representative sample of the packing materials and multiplying it by the total number of packages.
The resulting figure is the net physical mass of the textile consignment. This step prevents buyers from paying for heavy packaging materials or protective plastic wraps.
Financial Reconciliation
Standard contract terms require this weight to be recorded at the point of origin and verified at the point of delivery. Discrepancies often arise from humidity changes during transit. It establishes the baseline for all subsequent commercial calculations.
