Spatial Frequency
Production setup sheets specify the physical frequency of vertical wire spaces per unit length across the comb-like reed frame. Manufacturing parameter tables record reed dent count as the number of individual openings, or dents, contained within one inch or two point five four centimeters of reed width. The parameter defines the basic structural spacing available for warp yarn grouping during reeding, terminating at the boundary where finished fabric warp end density is calculated after processing contraction.
Reeding Capacity
Selection of reed density determines how many warp yarns pass through each dent to achieve target cloth end counts. Reeding two ends per dent through a ten-dent reed yields twenty warp ends per inch, whereas reeding four ends per dent through the same reed yields forty ends per inch. Coarser reeds with higher end-per-dent counts reduce warp abrasive stress but increase the risk of reed marks appearing as visible vertical streaks in plain dyed fabrics.
Friction Reduction
Finer reeds distribute warp yarns into smaller groups, minimizing yarn-to-yarn abrasion during high-speed shed openings.
Set Specification
Fabric structural planning relies on balancing reed density against yarn diameter to prevent warp overcrowding. Excessive end density inside a single dent restricts yarn movement, causing high warp end breakage rates and broken filaments on spun yarns. Machine operators verify the physical dent count stamped on the reed frame against warp ticket details before starting warp tying operations.
