Laboratory Vessel
Porous glass or ceramic discs integrated into the base of a container facilitate the filtration of chemical precipitates. The sintered crucible allows liquids to pass through under vacuum while trapping solid particles for subsequent weighing and analysis. This tool is used for gravimetric methods where the mass of a recovered fibre must be determined with high precision.
Filtration Grade
Pore sizes are categorized by grade to match the fineness of the material being filtered. A sintered crucible with a medium porosity prevents the loss of small fibrils during the quantitative analysis of cotton or viscose blends. Selecting the wrong grade leads to clogged pores or an inaccurate final weight.
Thermal Resistance
Material properties allow the vessel to withstand the high temperatures of a drying oven without deforming or losing mass. Because the sintered crucible is made of borosilicate glass, it remains chemically inert when exposed to acids or alkalis. This ensures that no part of the vessel reacts with the textile sample.
Maintenance Cycle
Cleaning protocols involve the use of strong oxidizers to remove trapped organic matter between tests. If a sintered crucible is not properly maintained, residual fibres from a previous batch contaminate the current result. Periodic weight checks confirm the stability of the vessel over time.
