Commercial Settlement
Formal procedures used to reconcile discrepancies in delivered fabric mass between a garment manufacturer and a textile mill establish the final billable weight. A weight dispute resolution protocol involves testing representative fabric rolls under standardized laboratory conditions to determine the correct commercial weight based on legal moisture regain. This process prevents arbitrary deductions and ensures fair transaction values.
Moisture Calculation
The resolution protocol is triggered when the received weight at the factory deviates from the invoiced weight by more than a specified tolerance. To start the weight dispute resolution, independent inspectors draw samples and dry them to a bone-dry state before adding the official moisture regain percentage. This corrected weight calculation accounts for any moisture absorbed or lost during sea transit and warehouse storage.
The resulting certified weight is compared to the shipping documents to calculate the actual shortfall or excess.
Tolerance Threshold
Most commercial textile contracts specify a tolerance limit of one or two percent before a formal claim can be registered. If the discrepancy falls within this range, the invoice stands without adjustment. This boundary prevents minor scale variations from triggering the weight dispute resolution protocol.
Arbitration Protocol
When the mill and the buyer cannot agree on the corrected figures, the dispute is referred to a third-party laboratory. This lab conducts the final testing under ISO standards, and their findings are binding on both parties. This structured mechanism ensures that disputes are settled using objective data rather than negotiation.
