Mechanical Force
Engineering parameters measure the pressure exerted by the rollers in a padding machine to control the amount of liquid finish applied to a fabric. The liquor padder nip pressure determines the squeeze effect that forces chemicals into the fibre structure while removing excess moisture. This setting is a primary variable in achieving the correct wet pickup percentage during the dyeing and finishing stages.
Application Control
Adjusting the cylinders to a higher liquor padder nip pressure results in a lower wet pickup and a more economical drying process. If the pressure is too low, the fabric may carry too much liquid into the oven, leading to migration or surface shading issues. The force must be uniform across the entire width of the rollers to prevent side-to-centre-to-side variation in the fabric properties.
Maintaining this balance is required for producing a consistent finish on technical textiles.
Squeeze Uniformity
Gauges on the machine monitor the load in bars or kilograms per linear centimetre to ensure the rollers stay parallel. Wear on the rubber covering of the rollers can create low pressure zones that leave the fabric wetter in some spots than others.
Process Verification
Operators check the weight of a fabric sample before and after padding to verify that the pressure setting is delivering the intended chemical add-on. Accurate control of this force reduces chemical waste and improves the final quality of the goods.
