Mechanical Driver
Precision components that change shape in response to an electrical charge provide the force needed to eject ink in digital textile printers. The piezoelectric actuator sits behind the nozzle chamber and flexes when voltage is applied. This rapid movement creates a pressure pulse that pushes a single drop of ink onto the passing fabric.
Drop Control
Variations in the electrical signal allow the system to create different sizes of droplets for shading and detail. Because the piezoelectric actuator responds almost instantly, it can fire thousands of times per second with extreme accuracy. This technology enables the high resolution imagery required for modern fashion and home furnishing textiles.
Material Composition
Specialized ceramic materials are used to construct these actuators because of their reliable movement and long life. Over millions of cycles, the piezoelectric actuator must maintain its physical properties to ensure that the volume of ink delivered remains constant. Stable performance is required to prevent color drift over the course of a large production order.
Industrial Application
Most industrial printheads for textiles use this method because it is compatible with a wide range of ink chemistries. Unlike thermal systems, the piezoelectric actuator does not use heat to move the liquid, which protects sensitive dyes and binders from degradation. This component is the functional heart of the digital inkjet process.
Electrical pulses are precisely timed to coordinate the firing of thousands of individual channels.
