Value Adjustment
Numerical multiplier adjusts the observed weight of a textile to its official commercial weight based on standard moisture levels. Trading partners apply a regain correction factor to account for the hygroscopic nature of natural fibres. Each fibre type has a recognized percentage of moisture it should hold under standard conditions.
This math converts a damp or overly dry shipment into a standardized trade weight.
Standard Application
The calculation involves dividing the sum of one hundred and the official regain by the sum of one hundred and the actual moisture content. By using the regain correction factor, the seller ensures they are paid for the dry mass plus the allowed water. This prevents disputes in climates where humidity fluctuates wildly.
A lot of wool with sixteen percent moisture will have a different regain correction factor than one with ten percent.
Laboratory Verification
Oven drying a representative sample provides the data needed for the formula. The regain correction factor is only valid if the initial moisture reading is accurate. Sensors must be calibrated to the specific density of the material.
Economic Neutrality
Proper use of the regain correction factor stabilizes the price per kilogram across different global regions.
