Squeeze Mechanism
Wet finishing processes utilize pairs of rollers to squeeze excess liquid from moving sheets of yarn or fabric. The contact zone between the squeeze rollers in the slasher size box is the sizing size box nip, which determines the amount of chemical sizing remaining on the warp yarns. Proper roll pressure prevents excess sizing.
Sizing Absorption
Yarn penetration by the size liquid relies on the force applied at this pressure zone. If the sizing size box nip pressure is too low, the size remains on the surface of the yarn, causing sizing flaking during weaving. High pressure forces the adhesive into the yarn core.
Pressure Variation
Uneven pressure across the width of the squeeze rolls leads to inconsistent size pick-up across the warp sheet. This variation creates different yarn strengths in the same warp.
Drying Requirement
The amount of water that must be evaporated by the drying cylinders is directly related to the squeeze efficiency of the rollers. A highly effective sizing size box nip reduces the thermal energy required to dry the warp sheet, lowering utility costs and accelerating production speeds. Rubber-covered squeeze rollers must be inspected regularly for wear or deformation, as any surface unevenness directly affects the uniformity of the applied sizing across the entire yarn sheet.
