Moisture Ratio
Moisture content calculated as a percentage of the bone-dry mass of a textile material is the fundamental basis for commercial transactions. In industrial testing, direct regain represents this value when it is measured directly by weighing the sample immediately after extraction from a drying oven. It defines the moisture state without adjusting for standard room conditions.
Desiccant Extraction
Consignment evaluation relies on this raw percentage to determine whether a shipment of yarn complies with contract limits. When a laboratory measures direct regain, it bypasses the lengthy conditioning phase in a climate chamber. This speed is helpful for rapid process adjustments on the factory floor during drawing or spinning.
Oven Calculation
Oven testing utilizes forced hot air at one hundred and five degrees Celsius to drive off all volatile water from the fibres until a constant mass is reached. The calculation compares the initial wet weight with this final dried value. Subtracting the dry mass from the initial mass yields the weight of the lost water.
Dividing this water weight by the dry weight gives the percentage. This method requires weighing the sample inside the oven or using a sealed transfer container to prevent moisture absorption from the surrounding air during the weighing process.
Yield Valuation
Settlement values are determined by this measured percentage because moisture directly alters the billable weight of the consignment. If the value exceeds the agreed standard, a buyer may demand a price adjustment. Incorrect measurement results in either paying for excess water or failing to meet quality thresholds.
