Formulating Agent
A liquid organic compound acts as a medium to dissolve or disperse active ingredients in textile processing baths. Utilizing a dye carrier solvent allows dense synthetic fibres to accept disperse dyes more efficiently at lower temperatures. This organic auxiliary operates by swelling the polyester structure.
Penetration Phase
Dyeing synthetic fibres requires the expansion of the polymer’s microscopic structure. When the dye carrier solvent is introduced into the aqueous dye bath, it migrates toward the hydrophobic polyester fibres. The solvent molecules then temporarily disrupt the intermolecular forces holding the polymer chains together.
This process allows dye molecules to diffuse rapidly into the polymer matrix. After the dyeing process is complete, the fabric is dried, causing the solvent to evaporate and the polymer chains to lock the dye in place.
Industrial Safety
Workplace safety regulations require careful management of volatile organic compounds in dyehouses. Because a dye carrier solvent can pose inhalation risks, factories must utilize effective local exhaust ventilation. Personal protective equipment is also required for workers handling these concentrated liquids.
Assay Method
Gas chromatography determines the concentration of organic residues on the dyed fabric. The dye carrier solvent is extracted from the textile sample using a suitable solvent before injection into the column. Minimizing these residues prevents unwanted odors in the finished garments.
