Analytical Instrument
A high-precision thermal chamber performs the rapid thermal decomposition of polymer materials in analytical chemistry. Utilizing a micro-furnace pyrolyzer enables textile laboratories to analyze synthetic fibers and polymer coatings without needing manual chemical pre-treatment. This device heats the sample rapidly under an inert atmosphere.
Operation Phase
Rapid heating of the test sample is achieved through direct contact with a pre-heated furnace wall. Inside the micro-furnace pyrolyzer, the sample is dropped into the hot zone where it undergoes immediate thermal breakdown. The resulting gases are swept by a carrier gas directly into the gas chromatograph for separation.
This setup minimizes the risk of condensation and secondary reactions, ensuring that the pyrogram reflects the true polymer composition.
Preparation Stage
Preparation of the sample for thermal degradation must be handled with care. Placing a tiny fabric fragment into the sample cup ensures that the micro-furnace pyrolyzer operates without overloading the gas chromatography column. This small sample size is necessary for rapid heat transfer.
System Integration
Direct coupling to the injection port of a gas chromatograph optimizes volatile transfer. The micro-furnace pyrolyzer must be kept at a high temperature to prevent the high-boiling-point pyrolyzate compounds from condensing on the transfer line. This prevents carryover and cross-contamination between successive fabric tests.
