Chemical Loss
Reduction in active softening agents during the immersion or padding process affects the tactile quality of the finished textile. Organosilicone softener depletion occurs when the silicone molecules have a high affinity for the fiber and are pulled out of the solution faster than the water. This results in a decreasing concentration of the softener in the bath as more fabric passes through the machine.
Depletion Rate
The speed of this loss depends on the fiber type and the chemical structure of the softener. Natural fibers often cause a more rapid drop in concentration than synthetics.
Tactile Property
Testing the hand feel of the fabric at the start and the end of a run reveals the extent of the problem. If organosilicone softener depletion is not managed, the first rolls will be much softer than the final ones in the same batch. Technicians prevent this by using a continuous dosing system that adds concentrated softener back into the bath at a rate that matches the consumption.
This ensures that every meter of fabric has the same premium feel.
Liquor Maintenance
Regular analysis of the bath concentration is necessary to maintain a consistent finish. Proper chemical management leads to a more uniform product and higher customer satisfaction.
