Thermal Imbalance
Uneven heat distribution across the width or length of a fabric tensioning machine causes variations in the physical properties of the textile. Stenter frame drying asymmetry occurs when one side of the oven is hotter than the other or when the airflow is not uniform. This results in inconsistent moisture removal and can lead to shading or width problems in the finished goods.
Airflow Mechanism
Fans and nozzles must be perfectly aligned to deliver the same amount of hot air to every part of the fabric. Blocked filters or damaged motors are common causes of uneven drying.
Physical Property
Fabrics that have been subjected to stenter frame drying asymmetry often show different shrinkage rates on the left and right sides. This distortion makes it difficult to align the grain of the fabric during the garment cutting process. In some cases, the chemicals on the hotter side may over-cure, leading to a harsher hand feel or a change in color.
Monitoring the temperature at multiple points across the width of the stenter helps the mill identify and fix these imbalances.
Correction Measure
Regular calibration of the heating elements and the airflow sensors prevents these issues from affecting the production. Maintaining a balanced drying environment is essential for producing high quality fabrics.
