Finishing Equipment
Finishing equipment located in textile mills to dry and heat set fabric while controlling the width of woven or knitted rolls. A thermal stenter uses a system of chains and clips to hold the fabric at a specific tension while it passes through heated chambers. This process stabilizes the dimensions of the material so it does not shrink or twist after it is cut into garments.
Temperature Control
Burners or electric coils maintain a precise heat inside the machine to trigger the molecular changes needed for synthetic fibers to hold their shape. A thermal stenter must be calibrated for every different fabric type to prevent melting the fibers or scorching the dyes. The dwell time, which is the duration the fabric stays in the heat, is the most important variable for achieving a consistent finish.
Chemical Application
Many factories use this machine to apply functional coatings such as water repellents or softeners. The fabric passes through a chemical bath before entering the thermal stenter where the heat cures the finish onto the fibers. This integrated approach ensures that the treatment is even across the entire length of the roll.
Output Quality
Correct operation produces a flat fabric with uniform density from edge to edge. Finished rolls are inspected for skew or bowing which are common defects caused by uneven tension in the machine.
