Desorption Mechanism
Rate of extraction and removal of unfixed dye molecules from cellulose fibres during hot aqueous rinsing determines the final wet fastness of dyed garments. The wash off kinetics describes the speed at which hydrolyzed dye molecules diffuse out of the fibre and enter the surrounding wash water. This physical process determines the water volume and time required to achieve a clean fabric surface.
It represents a critical analysis tool used by process engineers to reduce resource consumption in finishing mills.
Thermal Influence
High temperatures increase the swelling of the fiber pores and accelerate the diffusion of the trapped dye molecules. This thermal action raises the extraction rate and reduces the number of rinse bath changes needed. If the water is too cold, the extraction rate drops and dye removal remains incomplete.
Chemical Assistance
Polymeric dispersing agents are added to the rinse water to accelerate the extraction and prevent the released dye from staining the fabric. These chemical aids bind to the dye molecules and keep them suspended in the wash solution. This prevention of re-deposition improves the efficiency of the washing range.
Process Control
Continuous monitoring of the wash-off liquor allows the mill to stop the washing process once the dye concentration falls below a set value. This step avoids unnecessary water usage and shortens the total cycle time. It ensures that the fabric reaches the desired fastness standards with minimum waste.
