Moisture Accounting
Different textile fibers naturally hold varying amounts of water under standard atmospheric conditions. The weighted commercial regain is a calculated percentage used to adjust the invoiced weight of a multi-fiber blend. It ensures the buyer pays for the fiber rather than the ambient humidity.
Blend Ratio
Calculation involves multiplying the mass percentage of each constituent fiber by its official regain value as defined by international standards. To find the weighted commercial regain for a sixty percent cotton and forty percent polyester blend, the individual rates of eight point five and zero point four percent are combined proportionally. This resulting figure represents the standard moisture content allowed for the specific yarn construction.
Trade Standard
International bodies like the ASTM or ISO define the official regain values for every commercial fiber. Using the weighted commercial regain prevents disputes over weight variations caused by weather during transit. It provides a legal basis for global trade.
Weight Adjustment
The actual mass of the shipment is divided by one plus the actual moisture fraction and then multiplied by one plus the regain. Applying the weighted commercial regain correctly protects the profit margins of both the mill and the garment factory. Accurate moisture testing is the prerequisite for this math.
