Process Metric
Volumetric turnover measurements in continuous dyeing operations determine how frequently the chemical liquor is replaced in the application bath. Maintaining a high continuous trough refresh rate ensures that the concentration of active dyestuff remains constant over thousands of metres. This prevents the gradual depletion of the dye bath that causes end-to-end shading variations.
The metric is calculated as the ratio of hourly liquor consumption to the total volume of the trough.
Bath Equilibrium
Equilibrium between dye pickup by the fabric and the feeding of fresh stock solution stabilizes the system over long production hours. If the continuous trough refresh rate falls below the critical threshold, the concentration of the dye in the bath shifts toward a lower steady-state value. This occurs because the fabric absorbs the dye molecules faster than the solvent.
Frequent renewal of the bath volume prevents this drift.
Dosing Control
Dosing systems adjust the replenishment flow based on the speed of the fabric and its specific liquor pickup. In these operations, a high continuous trough refresh rate of three to five times the bath volume per hour is typical. Automation keeps the level stable while ensuring that the chemical composition matches the starting formulation.
Precision flowmeters track the incoming streams to maintain the balance.
Fabric Influence
Thick or highly absorbent fabrics increase the volumetric consumption and raise the renewal rate. Lightweight synthetic fabrics require a smaller trough volume to maintain the same turnover frequency.
