Extraction Instrument
Mechanical tube extractors with helical blades withdraw deep specimens from compressed textile packages without altering their density or state. A core sample auger retrieves representative lint from the interior of raw cotton or wool bales. This tool enables quality control departments to check moisture and trash levels deep within the pressed block.
Mechanical Design
The primary body consists of a hollow steel shaft fitted with a sharp cutting edge and a spiral flute. When powered by a rotary drill or driven manually, the core sample auger cuts a clean cylinder of fibre. The inner diameter must be large enough to prevent the material from jamming during retrieval.
Penetration Process
Operators push the rotating device through the dense protective wrapping of the bale. The core sample auger travels to a pre-set depth to ensure that samples are not collected only from the surface layer.
Sample Integrity
Compressed fibres within a bale vary in moisture content and density from the exterior to the core. By using the core sample auger, the laboratory secures a blended sample that represents the entire volume of the bale. This method prevents the moisture loss that would occur if the bale were cut open and exposed to the atmosphere for a prolonged period.
