Tension Accumulation
The controlled stretching force applied to a moving fabric web within a horizontal storage framework prevents slack during roll changes. This horizontal accumulator draft must be carefully regulated to avoid fabric distortion or run-out during continuous open-width processes. It stabilizes the fabric line.
Tensioning Action
As the accumulator fills, the fabric travels through a series of fixed and moving rollers that expand or contract the storage loop. The horizontal accumulator draft is governed by the relative speed of the inlet and outlet drive rolls in relation to carriage movement. If the draft is too high, it will permanently stretch synthetic fabrics and skew the weave pattern.
Control systems adjust the carriage speed to keep this draft uniform during the entire storage cycle.
Deformation Risk
Knit fabrics are particularly vulnerable to stitch distortion when held in the accumulator under high tension. The loops can become elongated and fail to recover their original shape after finishing. Proper draft adjustment prevents these faults.
Verification Task
Sensing arrays monitor the fabric tension and automatically trim the roll speeds to keep the draft within limits. Technicians run trial lots to check for distortion. Active adjustments prevent drafting variations within the horizontal accumulator draft range.
