Acidity Management
Hydrogen ion regulation maintains the acidity or alkalinity of chemical baths within a specific range to ensure predictable dye reactions. Efficient ph level control prevents the premature fixation of reactive dyes or the degradation of delicate animal fibers like wool and silk. Monitoring relies on the continuous checking of the solution and the automated addition of acids or bases.
Chemical Buffer
Electrochemical probes detect the potential difference between a reference electrode and a measuring electrode submerged in the liquor. To achieve stable ph level control, the system must account for the logarithmic nature of the scale, where a single unit shift represents a tenfold change in ion concentration. Dosing pumps deliver small volumes of acetic acid or soda ash based on the deviation from the set point.
Precise mixing is required to avoid localized zones of high concentration that could damage the textile.
Process Monitoring
Leveling during the dyeing process depends on a slow shift from neutral to acidic conditions. Controlled ph level control allows the dye molecules to migrate evenly through the yarn before they are permanently bonded to the fiber.
Operational Limit
High temperatures and harsh chemicals shorten the life of the glass membranes in the sensors. If a probe becomes depleted or poisoned by metal ions, the ph level control system will provide false data, leading to uneven colors or ruined batches. Calibration with standard buffer solutions must occur daily in a production environment.
