Separation Stage
A mechanical action separates warp yarns that have stuck together during the liquid sizing application before they enter the drying chamber. This wet split is performed using separator rods placed between the sizing box and the drying cylinders of the sizing machine. Splitting the wet sheet prevents the yarns from drying as a solid, fused block.
Splitting Process
After passing through the starch sizing bath, the wet warp sheet is highly adhesive and the individual yarns tend to cling together. Rods of different diameters are inserted into the warp sheet to gently divide the yarns into separate layers while they are still wet. This step requires precise tension control to avoid breaking the wet yarns.
Technical Benefit
Implementing this process ensures that the dried warp sheet can be easily divided on the dry split section of the sizing machine. It reduces the mechanical force needed to separate the dried yarns, which minimizes hairiness and yarn damage. The resulting weaver beam features smooth, individual yarns that glide easily during high-speed weaving.
Quality Control
Operators must monitor the rod positions and warp tension to prevent yarn abrasion during the splitting process. If the wet split is not performed correctly, the dry splitting stage will cause severe yarn breakage and damage the sizing film. Consistent maintenance of the separation rods ensures high-quality sizing and improves subsequent weaving performance, protecting the mill from loom stoppages and fabric flaws.
