Surface Interaction
Spreading behavior of a liquid droplet as it makes contact with a textile surface over a measured period. Analysis of dynamic wetting allows manufacturers to evaluate the performance of moisture wicking fabrics and water repellent finishes. The initial impact of the drop is followed by a period of spreading where the liquid moves along the fibre surfaces.
This process is influenced by the surface energy of the material and the physical roughness of the weave.
Absorption Rate
Speed at which the liquid penetrates the interior of the yarn bundle defines the comfort level of performance apparel. High dynamic wetting values indicate that a fabric can manage perspiration effectively by spreading it over a large surface area for rapid evaporation.
Contact Angle
Instruments capture high speed images to measure the angle between the liquid edge and the fabric surface at millisecond intervals. In a dynamic wetting test, the change in this angle over time reveals the transition from initial contact to full saturation.
Application Scope
Finishers use these measurements to optimize the application of chemical treatments such as softeners or soil release agents. A thorough understanding of dynamic wetting helps in the development of fabrics that balance protection with breathability. Consistent results across different batches confirm that the finishing process has been applied uniformly to the bulk production.
