Standard Scope
International certification framework that verifies the recycled content of products and tracks the social and environmental practices used in their manufacture. The grs applies to any product containing at least 20 percent recycled material and provides a full system of traceability from the recycler to the final brand. It defines the specific requirements for third-party auditing of the supply chain.
Content Verification
Transaction certificates must accompany every movement of material through the spinning and weaving stages. To carry the label, the final product needs a minimum of 50 percent recycled content under the grs guidelines. These rules prevent the blending of uncertified materials into the designated production lots during industrial processing.
Environmental Requirement
Facilities must implement a wastewater management system and maintain strict chemical records to achieve compliance. The grs prohibits the use of hazardous substances listed in the REACH regulation or other toxicological benchmarks. This ensures that the recycled textile is traced and processed in a safe manner for the workers and the ecosystem.
Social Criterion
Labour rights and safety protocols form the basis of the ethical components within the standard. Every certified factory undergoes annual inspections to ensure that working hours and wages meet the prescribed benchmarks.
