Hydraulic Standard
International test standards for mechanical fabric evaluation specify hydraulic protocols to determine the bursting strength and bursting distension of textile fabrics. Adherence to iso 13938-1 requires mounting a flexible circular specimen over an expanding diaphragm driven by hydraulic fluid pressure applied at a constant volumetric rate. The testing machine monitors rising hydraulic pressure and central distension height until structural fabric failure occurs.
Garment manufacturers apply this hydraulic test to knitted fabrics, nonwoven linings, and elastic webbings where directional tensile strength tests provide incomplete structural data.
Fluid Distension
Hydraulic pressure applies uniform multi-axial stress across the test specimen until yarn rupture happens. Standard iso 13938-1 testing requires baseline diaphragm pressure correction to ensure net values represent pure fabric resistance.
Specimen Calibration
Testing conditions specify a standard relative humidity of sixty-five percent and twenty degrees Celsius to preserve ambient fiber moisture. Results must record mean bursting strength in kilopascals, burst distension in millimeters, and total duration to failure in seconds.
Modulus Boundary
Extremely heavy technical canvases or high-tenacity woven fabrics can exceed the pressure capacity of standard laboratory hydraulic pumps. Non-uniform fabric coatings create localized pressure points that cause premature edge tearing along the clamping ring rather than a true center rupture.
