Chemical Control
Controlled alkalinity maintenance in the reactive dyeing of cellulosic fibres ensures consistent dye-fibre covalent bonding without triggering rapid hydrolysis. The soda ash buffering action stabilizes the pH of the dye bath within the narrow range of ten to eleven. This stability is critical for reactive dyes, which require a moderately high pH for fixation but will decompose if the alkalinity climbs too high.
Process Utility
Adding sodium carbonate to the dye bath provides a reliable reserve of alkali that resists sudden pH changes during the fixation phase. Implementing soda ash buffering allows the reaction to proceed at a steady rate across the entire batch of fabric. This chemical stability ensures that the dye is fixed uniformly throughout the yarn packages or fabric rolls.
Quality Output
Consistency in pH levels prevents shade variations between different dyeing batches and reduces the need for correction cycles. When soda ash buffering is optimized, the fabric achieves high color yield and excellent wash fastness. This chemical control is verified by measuring the pH of the bath at the start and end of the fixation phase.
Reaction Boundary
The buffering action is limited to the temperature range of sixty to eighty degrees Celsius. It becomes less stable at higher temperatures.
