Dimensional Rail
The mechanical distance established between parallel pin or clip chains on a finishing stenter frame dictates final open-width fabric dimensions during drying and heat setting operations. Finishing plant operators adjust stenter width setting parameters to control fabric bow, skew and cuttable width before packaging. The mechanism grips fabric selvedges and pulls the web laterally to target dimensions while passing through heated oven zones.
The setting applies to continuous open-width stenter finishing, ceasing to apply during tubular knitting finishing or rope processing.
Thermal Setting
Thermoplastic synthetic fabrics require specific heat setting temperatures while held at fixed rail widths. Setting an incorrect stenter width setting causes latent fabric shrinkage or edge bowing after tension release at the delivery end. Temperature profiles work in tandem with rail width adjustments to set permanent fabric dimensions.
Edge Tension
Over-stretching fabric rails generates high cross-wise tension that damages selvedges or causes pin tears. Machine operators monitor stenter width setting gauges to maintain width uniformity across finishing runs. Fabric weight per square metre varies inversely with rail width extension.
Shrinkage Control
Post-wash shrinkage targets govern rail width adjustments during final finishing passes. Aligning stenter width setting values with garment manufacturing specs prevents width variation between fabric rolls. Quality audits measure cuttable width across every finished lot.
