Surface Finish
Lacquer systems formulated from polyvinylidene fluoride are coated over flexible structural fabrics to offer advanced protection against environmental factors. Adding a pvdf topcoat results in a slick, non-stick exterior that effectively sheds common pollutants and bird droppings during rain. This treatment is standard for fabrics used in large-span structures where manual cleaning is impractical or expensive.
Protective Mechanism
Thin applications prevent plasticizer migration from the lower layers of the coating to the surface. Without a functional pvdf topcoat, the fabric would become tacky and rapidly accumulate dirt that cannot be removed by simple washing. The layer also acts as a shield against the intense radiation of the sun, extending the time until the underlying fibres turn brittle.
Commercial Testing
Measurement of the application thickness takes place during the production cycle to ensure it meets the fifty to one hundred micron standard specification. Any gaps in the pvdf topcoat allow for localized environmental damage that can eventually compromise the integrity of the whole structure. Certification by third parties ensures the chemical purity of the resin matches the claimed percentage on the data sheet.
Execution Detail
Application usually involves a liquid coating followed by a high-temperature cure to fuse it to the base vinyl. The lifespan of the total installation is governed by the quality of this final barrier layer.
