Fluid Velocity
Mechanical specifications determine the narrowest point of the venturi system in a jet dyeing machine. The nozzle throat diameter regulates the speed of the textile rope and the volume of liquid that accompanies it through the transport tube. Selecting the correct size is necessary for preventing blockages and ensuring the fabric moves without excessive tension.
Fabric Clearance
Heavyweight fabrics like denim or thick fleece require a larger nozzle throat diameter to allow the folded rope to pass through without snagging. If the opening is too small, the fabric will bunch up and create a knot that stops the machine and damages the material. Mismatching the nozzle size to the fabric weight is a common cause of uneven dyeing and physical surface defects.
Pressure Gradient
Kinetic energy is transferred from the liquor to the fabric more efficiently when the nozzle throat diameter is matched to the pump capacity. A smaller diameter creates higher pressure and faster fabric speeds which can be beneficial for lightweight synthetic knits. This increased velocity improves the exchange between the dye liquor and the fibre surface by increasing the shear force.
Machine Versatility
Modern dyeing plants maintain a range of interchangeable parts so they can adjust the nozzle throat diameter for different production runs. This flexibility allows a single machine to process both delicate silk scarves and heavy cotton interlocks. The diameter remains a fixed constraint during a specific batch and dictates the maximum loading weight the machine can handle.
