Movement Rate
Linear speed measures the distance traveled by a continuous fabric strand through a wet processing machine per unit of time. Determining rope linear velocity is critical in jet and beck dyeing machines to calculate the dwell time of the fabric in the dye liquor. This measurement is typically expressed in meters per minute.
Dyeing Uniformity
Mass transfer between the dye liquor and the textile substrate depends on the frequency of contact. A high rope linear velocity increases this contact frequency, which promotes level dyeing by redistributing the fabric folds and ensuring even liquor exposure. If the speed is too low, the fabric remains in the holding zone too long, which can cause unlevelness or temperature bands.
Machine Control
Driven reel speeds and nozzle pressure work together to propel the fabric rope through the machine. Adjusting the rope linear velocity allows the operator to match the transport speed with the fabric weight and construction. This synchronization prevents excessive tension or fabric slippage on the driven reel, which can cause surface abrasion.
Monitoring System
Electronic sensors such as magnetic tags or optical encoders track the cycle time of the fabric rope. This monitoring system calculates the rope linear velocity by measuring the time required for a marked point on the rope to complete one full circuit.
